Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK)

Hi, my name is Dr. Bill, and as someone who has been trained in Naturopathic Medicine. Besides other diagnostic testing and procedures, I use Applied Kinesiology in my practice.

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a system that evaluates structural, chemical and mental aspects of health using manual muscle testing combined with other standard methods of diagnosis. AK, a non-invasive system of evaluating body function that is unique in the healing arts, has become a dynamic movement in health care in its relatively short existence.

The combined terms “applied” and “kinesiology” describe the basis of this system, which is the use of manual muscle testing to evaluate body function through the dynamics of the musculoskeletal system. Treatments may involve specific joint manipulation or mobilization, various myofascial therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical nutrition, dietary management, counseling skills, evaluating environmental irritants and various reflex procedures.

As you probably know, AK uses muscle testing as a primary feedback mechanism to examine how a person’s body is functioning. When properly applied, the outcome of  this testing can assist in determining the best form of therapy for the patient.

Over the course of my practice I have learned that there is no one end-to-all-suffering approach or a diagnostic tool.

Using a single method of diagnosis to determine a cause of all diseases is akin to using a thermometer to measure weight.

However, AK testing (along with other standard diagnostic tests) is a great tool to provide a practitioner with an instant feedback, and it  is one of those disciplines that draws together the core elements of many complimentary therapies, so it provides an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare.

This is why I like to draw on Applied Kinesiology along with other traditional testing to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment of my clients.

Diagnosing & Treating Your Condition

When a muscle tests weak, we will determine why it is not properly functioning, and choose the therapy that will best eliminate the weakness and help you heal.

Therapies utilized can include specific joint manipulations or mobilizations, various myofascial therapies (forms of therapies for soft tissue), cranial techniques, nutritional therapies and various acupuncture/reflex procedures. By applying the appropriate therapy, the muscle tests strong and the postural distortion will change (a shorter way of saying your muscles will straighten you up, freeing you from pain)

It is the physician’s diagnostic workup that determines the final diagnosis.

Procedures are administered to achieve the following examination and therapeutic goals:

  • Provide an interactive assessment of the functional health status of an individual which is not equipment intensive, but does emphasize the importance of correlating findings with standard diagnostic procedures.
  • Restore postural balance, correct gait impairment, improve range of motion.
  • Restore normal afferentation to achieve proper neurological control and/or organization of body function.
  • Achieve homeostasis of endocrine, immune, digestive, and other visceral functions.
  • Intervene earlier in degenerative processes to prevent or delay the onset of frank pathological processes.

Are You In Pain?
